Amarex-sponsored Team Awarded Gold Medal at the 2018 iGEM Competition

Germantown, MD, USA (February 13, 2019) – Amarex is pleased to announce that its sponsored team, NTHU_Formosa, was awarded a gold medal at the 2018 International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM), held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, MA.

Team NTHU_Formosa, comprised of 14 undergraduate students and two PIs from the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, received a Gold medal for Integrated Human Practice and Model Your Project, a Silver medal for Validated Part/Validated Contribution, Collaboration, and Human Practices and a Bronze medal for Registration and Attendance, Competition Deliverables, Attribution and Contribution. The team also received nominations for Best Diagnostics Project and Best Presentation. NTHU_Formosa designed a wearable medical device called BioWatcher, which is a bioluminescent-detecting smart watch that tracks biomarker abnormalities in real-time and alerts the wearer of possible heath concerns. BioWatcher also has the capability of capturing this data for public health research studies. For more information on this project, please visit:
